In 2017, there were over 47,000 opioid overdose deaths in the U.S., more prevalent than automobile or firearm-related incidents. Unfortunately, the grim statistics do not stop there.


In August 2020, The Chester County Coroner’s Office released data on drug overdose deaths in Chester County from January 1st, 2020-June 30, 2020. A total of 58 deaths have been confirmed to be due to accidental overdose. Despite it being smaller than the 68 overdose deaths reported mid-way through 2019, the Coroner’s Office cautioned that it is not possible to accurately predict a total for all of 2020.


These statistics and initiatives put forth by county personnel, decision makers, and medical staff, make the community more than acutely aware of what needs to be done to rectify the issue.
