September 2021 is National Recovery Month! National Recovery Month, celebrated annually each September, is a national observance and a national celebration to educate Americans that treatment can help those suffering from addiction find recovery and live healthy and rewarding lives.
The purpose of National Recovery Month is to celebrate recovery from addiction, to bring awareness that recovery is possible, to highlight hopeful and uplifting stories of Americans living in recovery, and to break the stigma so often still associated with addiction and mental illness. National Recovery Month celebrates the millions of Americans that have found recovery from addiction, alcoholism, substance use disorders, and co-occurring disorders, and reinforces the message that behavioral health issues like addiction and mental illness is essential to overall health and wellness, that prevention efforts work, that addiction treatment is effective, and that recovery is available to anyone.
Annually, a new focus and theme is selected for National Recovery Month. In 2021, the theme is “Recovery is for Everyone: Every Person, Every Family, Every Community.” This message will support ongoing themes and events throughout the month, demonstrating that recovery from addiction is not simply for an individual, but for the family members and communities that are impacted by addiction and also need recovery. Proud members of recovery communities in every city and state throughout the country will share the message that recovery works by coming together and sharing their stories of treatment and recovery.
In Pennsylvania, there are many National Recovery Month events and activities. Local communities, cities, and the state as a whole will celebrate National Recovery Month. Here at Innovo Detox, we have chosen several events local to Central Pennsylvania to support. Most of these events are open to the public and the local community, some requiring tickets to attend. Below is a list of the National Recovery Months in our local Pennsylvania community that Innovo Detox will be present at and support:
